This was not our first time in Athens. Those who have been reading our blog since the beginning will remember our trip back in 2015 when we attended a big, fat Greek wedding and marvelled at the open-air museum that is Athens. Now, almost exactly three years later, we’ve returned, but for a slightly different evening extravaganza – the August Full Moon Festival. If you’ve never heard of the Full Moon Festival in Athens, you should know that several museums and archaeological sites around the city open their doors to the public free of charge in the evening, with extended opening hours until midnight. The Greeks are a romantic people, so viewing some of the world’s most ancient human creations under the...

Last week we reached a ridiculous, we-still-cannot-fathom-it milestone. Whilst flying over Vienna during our South-Africa-to-Amsterdam flight, we clocked over 384,400km traveled since leaving home originally on March 2nd 2015. It seems like a random number, but according to science, 384,400km (238,855 miles) is the exact distance between the Earth and the Moon. Travel goals for a couple who left home to see how far from home they could go?! Umm, YES! It’s taken us 3 years and 7 weeks to reach the moon. Sure, NASA or SpaceX could do it quicker, but would they have as many memories as us?! And would they have learned as much as us? Ok…they’d probably learn more…but we think these 69 lessons are pretty...

We are nearing the end of our four-week trip in Portugal’s eccentric capital, Lisbon, and since it feels like we’ve been testing transport more than anything (and one of the city’s icons is a vehicle), I thought I’d dedicate our post to the various ways you can see it. For those of you who have never been to Lisbon (or have never seen images), the city is filled with tiny little cobbled streets. It has that European charm that you can expect from the EU, but what it also has (unlike some of the bigger inland capitals of Europe) is a coastline – a coastline with bridges, beachy pedestrian zones, and sunsets that delve off into the ocean (like in...

We’ve partnered up with global bike-sharing system Donkey Republic, and flight and accommodation search engine Momondo, to explore some of Europe’s most esteemed cities, hoping to prove that anywhere, anything, with anyone, at anytime, is simply a bike ride away…oh, and that there’s no better way to explore a city than on two wheels. Follow along in what we have affectionately called our #TourDeDonkey. Our final stop: Munich, Germany The mission: Find the most active ways to experience the city   We get it. When you arrive at Munich International Airport (from one of the flights you found on Momondo), you are more than likely going to be thinking about all the beautiful golden nectar you can drink at one...

Ok, ok, I might be getting a little ahead of myself. No, we have not decided to give up our full-time traveling life (yet). There’s still some burning steam left in us, and there’s still a million and one things we need to see and photograph (obvs), all across this beautiful planet, so no, we are not moving to Helsinki just yet. BUT. When we do eventually decide to settle, and get dogs (that’s really the main reason we’d give up this whirlwind life), I am going to fight hard for it to be in Helsinki. Let me tell you why…     Admittedly, this happens every now and then. We board a flight, and leave a country, and I...

At the end of last year, we managed to tick off our 75th item on our Wanderlist by visiting my Motherland a.k.a. my family’s home country – Poland. For those of you following along regularly on Instagram (hey fammmm!!) you might remember me teaching you how to make Pierogis that one time? Or you might remember how I forced Stevo to try all the amazing foods I ate as a kid (ok, “forced” is probably not the best word, as he did so willingly)? Well, if you’re not part of our Insta Crew (why on Earth not?!), and you did not know that Polish cuisine made up 99% of my diet as a kid, then – SURPRISE! Let me use this...

Follow along in what we have affectionately called our #TourDeDonkey. Our first stop: Copenhagen, Denmark The mission: Find the best cuisine   Often coined as the “food capital of Scandinavia”, it was no surprise to us that our friends at Donkey Republic made food the theme for our tour of Copenhagen. But wanting to make this a bicycle food tour like no other, we decided to...

In an attempt to give you a little taste of the course, we have created this blog series, entitled simply, “Things You Need To Know To Travel Around The World”. Our first piece in the series: Learning The Lingo   Perhaps a...

Nasi Goreng and Mie Goreng. Bánh Cuõn, Phõ and Cao Lâu. Amok, Lok Lak and Kuyteav. Okonomiyaki, Mochi and Sashimi. If you’ve traveled through Asia (specifically Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Japan) like we recently have, you’ll know that these hard-to-pronounce words are in fact extremely popular (and widely-eaten) dishes from the four countries. Those that know me well, know that I have a slightly sickening obsession with food. I dream about food, rely on food to get me through the hard days (sometimes a little too much), and if I wasn’t traveling the world taking pics and telling stories, I’d probably be running a vegan beach-side bakery (maybe that’s a dream I need to fulfill in the next decade…hmmm…). Although there...

Our motto and motivation is to “collect experiences, not things”. Whilst on our journey, we’re aiming to spend our time and money on spectacular experiences, to be left with incredible learnings and memories, not tangible objects. This way, we’re sure to keep our lives light without additional luggage, but also be the change we want to see in the world. Our next featured experience is a visit to Angkor Wat in Cambodia.   There’s places in this world you hear about, and you think that you’ll probably never get to visit them. Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument, was one such place for me. Of course I’d heard about it in travel magazines, travel blogs, and from friends who had...
