Our motto and motivation is to “collect experiences, not things”. Whilst on our journey, we’re aiming to spend our time and money on spectacular experiences, to be left with incredible learnings and memories, not tangible objects. This way, we’re sure to keep our lives light without additional luggage, but also be the change we want to see in the world. Our next featured experience is a detox at the Yoga and Meditation Retreat, Vagabond Temple, in Cambodia.   I’m writing this from what is known as “the private corner”. The private corner is essentially a small square table (positioned perfectly under five trees to attain constant shade), surrounded by four wooden benches. If one sits in the private corner it means he or...

Let me introduce you to @desi.strolls aka Désirée Illsinger. Despite her French name, Desi (as we have come to calm her) is a proud German who has spent majority of her life living in grand German cities, such as Hamburg and Munich. She takes amazing photographs, writes (look out for her first self-published novel coming soon to a book store near you), and is not afraid to hop on a plane and travel to far off places solo…Vancouver, Paris, and New York come to mind.     We met Desi in late 2015 at an Instameet in Munich. We were coincidentally there ticking off number 10 from our Wanderlist, “have a few beers at Oktoberfest in München, Germany,” with our friend Ant,...

There’s few places in the world that are synonymous with paradise; pure, uninhabited, postcard-perfect paradise. If you say “Bali” to pretty much anyone, visions of sultry jungle-like resorts, crystal blue waters and endless cocktail menus (and/or yoga studios) come to mind. To some (mostly those stressed and tired of hustling city living), this is the perfect paradise. We mentioned earlier this week that there’s mainly two ways to travel through Bali – either on the cheap (which we did for a few weeks) or you travel through Bali the way you’d travel if you were on an endless honeymoon, lounging around in exquisite villas, enjoying the ultimate me-time, down-time and sexy-time. We were fortunate enough to visit five of Bali’s...

There seem to be two ways to do Bali. You could either get yourself a luxurious villa or a room at one of the the gazillion resorts available, or you can really enjoy the epitome of #BudgetTravel and do Bali on the cheap. For the most part of our 3-week excursion, we did the latter, and we’re still amazed at how far we managed to go (yes, that was a little punny pun pun) on a low budget.     We hopped around quite a bit, spending a little bit of time at the bottom of the island at Padang Padang, some time in the main city centre of Denpasar, hopping from homestay to homestay in Ubud (that little village...

Different from our usual just-the-two-of-us trips, we recently took a Trafalgar tour, for a group-travel experience of a lifetime. 10 days, 1 sensational country made up of 2 contrasting islands, and a collection of 39 strangers who have proven that the best part of travel is the people you meet along the way. The last city on our Contrasts of New Zealand tour was Queenstown.   Imagine a town nestled on the shore of a deep blue lake (New Zealand’s longest lake), set against the dramatic Southern Alp mountain range (the highest range in Australasia), offering visitors the opportunity to speed in jet boats across rivers in canyons, enjoy delectable buffets at pristine farmlands, take scenic gondola rides up high to view colorful views of the city, ski in...

If I told you that we’d made 218 new friends in the past 18 months, would you believe me? People from Australia, Norway, Canada, Singapore and Italy. People aged 18, 45, and 31. People who we had planned encounters with, and people who miraculously stumbled into our lives, and now we have them on speed dial (ok, so we don’t actually have them on speed dial, because, well, we don’t make any calls these days, but if we had actively-calling phones, we’d have these people on speed dial). It’s no secret that travel broadens your network and allows you to meet people from completely different walks of life. I guess Stevo and I expected to meet people on the journey;...

I must begin this post by apologizing to our regular readers. We’ve been really quiet (on the blog) and we haven’t been able to keep up with the one-blog-post-per-week frequency that we set for ourselves. But if I told you that we’d been to twelve cities in six countries this month alone, would you forgive me? Hope so #TrueStory And some of you may have noticed that our website has a new look? Well, that’s a work in progress too, and we hope to “unveil” it and shout about it a bit more once it’s complete – so please no judgement just yet! Now back to the topic of this post… Although we spent a magical four and a half...

There’s countries you know you need to visit before you die, because, well, half the world has been there and you’ve seen the iconic photographs and TV shows (do people still watch TV?!). Italy, France, USA, and Japan come to mind. Then there’s countries that not too many have discovered, and really raved about. Sure tourism is high almost everywhere, but some countries don’t get enough limelight. Well, Namibia is, in our opinion, one of those sensational gems that really could use some more attention (especially because we’ve had “Walk through the Namib desert” on a road trip in Namibia on our Wanderlist since the beginning). And now here we are, post road-trip-in-Namibia, still in shock and in awe of...

Different from our usual just-the-two-of-us trips, we recently took a Topdeck Travel tour, for a group-travel experience of a lifetime. 21 days, 4 countries, 14 sleeping destinations, and a collection of 14 strangers who have proven that the best part of travel is the people you meet along the way. The next stop on our East African Explorer tour was the beautiful island of Zanzibar. If you wanted to explore a place that offered you white sand beaches, turquoise waters, exotic food (mostly vegan, so double yay from me), and a city full of history and culture, then you are reading the perfect blog post. The island of Zanzibar is, quite honestly, one of the most unique places we’ve ever visited. With its Arab...

Different from our usual just-the-two-of-us trips, we recently took the Topdeck Travel Trail to the Alps tour, for a group travel experience of a lifetime. 18 days, 8 countries, 14 cities, and a group of 29 strangers who have proven that the best part of travel is the people you meet along the way. The next city on our Trail to the Alps tour was Rome.   Rome is way bigger, way more energetic, and way cooler than I thought. Seriously. Stevo might not agree with this, but I could move to Rome tomorrow. I love Italy more than most countries (I might be biased as I have some Italian in my family line) so it was great to find a city that had the...
