We’ve partnered up with global bike-sharing system Donkey Republic, and flight and accommodation search engine Momondo, to explore some of Europe’s most esteemed cities, hoping to prove that anywhere, anything, with anyone, at anytime, is simply a bike ride away…oh, and that there’s no better way to explore a city than on two wheels. Follow along in what we have affectionately called our #TourDeDonkey.
Our first stop: Copenhagen, Denmark
The mission: Find the best cuisine
Often coined as the “food capital of Scandinavia”, it was no surprise to us that our friends at Donkey Republic made food the theme for our tour of Copenhagen. But wanting to make this a bicycle food tour like no other, we decided to put some rules in place, and keep things interesting…
So we asked: “What if we could find the best food, but focus on eating only that which can be eaten on a bicycle i.e. only food you can eat with one hand?”
Of course that sounds like a great idea!
So ladies and gents, if you’re looking for the best places to eat and drink (whilst riding the streets of Copenhagen on two wheels) you have come to the right place. Below is our photo series, featuring 12 local dishes and delicacies that we found in beautiful (and gastronomic) Copenhagen.

Start your morning slow, rolling out of your comfy bed at Hotel Kong Arthur, to enjoy the fruity yoghurt drinks from the breakfast buffet.
On your way out, stop at the Lagkagehuset to grab a very typical Danish treat – the Snegl…
…Or if you prefer a savoury snack, Smørrebrød can be found almost anywhere (even at Donkey Republic’s HQ during meetings #truestory).
We know no Scandinavian cycling trip is complete without a good cup of coffee (and luckily the Danes know how to brew a good cup), so make sure you grab a large Cappuccino at Arrebo in Nørrebro (and sip on it slowly between the lines at Superkilen).
For a healthy(er) fast food lunch, ride through Strøget in the City Centre, and pick yourself up an organic hot dog from Døp…
…And baked fries, from The Hungry Dane.
Then when dessert time calls, choose between a strawberry tærte from Lagkagehuset…
…Or for a kinder option, try the pure vegan ice-cream bowls at Nicecream.
You’ll be spoilt for choice at the Copenhagen Street Food market on Papirøen, where pulled-pork sandwiches from Oink Oink BBQ…
…And plant-powered quinoa burgers from Latienda Happy Burger, will definitely fill the gap at dinner time.
For sundowners, head on over to the Naturs pop-up bar in the old shipping warehouse district, Refshaleoen, for match-your-Donkey-bike orange-colored Rosé…
…Or pop into the Mikkeller & Friends bar and brewery for the perfect range of innovative beers (and great conversation).
