The 10 Most Photogenic Locations In The World

Having been fortunate enough to travel to 60 countries as of December 2021, we have seen some stunning places that make it super easy to take a fantastic photo. Our Instagram feed over the years has showcased a lot of these places, but we thought it was finally time we compiled a list of the most photogenic locations, and shared our list on our blog. So if you are an avid photographer, or are looking to get travelling again to some incredibly beautiful locations, we hope this post inspires you to get out there.

Now beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder, and we know that to be true, but we strongly believe that you will be blown away with our ten choices. This is part 1 for the time being (as there are many more than just ten photogenic locations around the world), and as we travel more, the list will undoubtedly continue to grow.

Below – in no particular order – are our ten most photogenic locations in the world.

Jaipur, India

Known as the “Pink City” for the city is awash with this stunning colour. During the rule of Sawai Ram Singh I, the city was painted pink to welcome HRH Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (who later became King Edward VII, Emperor of India). The textures and architecture are a photographer’s haven, and it is really a photogenic location.

Rotterdam Tulip Fields, The Netherlands

Every year from the end of March to mid May, Rotterdam and surrounds explode with colour, and the countryside turns from a dull landscape into a really photogenic location. We knew these amazing tulip fields were spectacular, but to see them in person blew us away.

Cape Town, South Africa

We had to throw our home country in here! We truly believe it’s one of the most photogenic locations in the world. With Table Mountain towering over the Atlantic Ocean, and the colourful streets of Bo-Kaap, Cape Town is a must-see city. Oh, and don’t forget the penguins that can be found just a short drive from the city.

Banff National Park, Canada

The Rocky mountains give this landscape so much character, and the turquoise glacial lakes that dot the region are a sight to behold. It’s pretty hard to take a bad photo here and that’s why Banff is on our list.

Burano, Italy

Just a short boat trip from Venice, is the colourful island village of Burano. It has the charm of Venice with its canals, but the kaleidoscopic-coloured houses add so much vibrance to the village. The island is also known for its embroidery, and you can learn how these famous hand-made garments are made.

Maras Salt Mines, Peru

Peru, in general, is one of the most photogenic locations in the world. With its vibrant culture and stunning views, it’s a photographer’s dream. People of course think immediately of Machu Picchu, but the Maras salt flats (not far from Cusco) are so visually stunning and shouldn’t be left off the itinerary. The geometric shapes from above, and different coloured salt ponds, make for such interesting photos.

Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, Namibia

What can we say about this place – it’s one of our favourites. We even eloped here as we just loved the scenery. The oldest desert in the world, with its giant rusty orange dunes and scattered wildlife, make it like no other place on Earth. If you get the chance to see it, you won’t regret it. Just don’t forget your camera.

Quintano Roo, Mexico

With it’s deep blue cenotes and stunning beaches, this part of Mexico is definitely one of the most photogenic locations in the world. If you plan your visit over Día de Muertos, the whole region comes to life, and the colour and vibrance of the decorations are great for photography. We have barely scraped the surface of what Mexico has to offer, but from the Quintano Roo region alone, we will be back.

Wadi Rum & Petra, Jordan

The ancient city of Petra and Mars-like landscape of Wadi Rum offer so much for the avid photographer. Petra is a full-day affair, as there is so much to see, and doing the hike up to the Monastery (officially known as Ad Deir) is well worth it. We can say the same for Wadi Rum, the filming location of the movie “Mars” starring Matt Damon, as there are so many unreal vistas to capture.

Gozo, Malta

The last on our list of the 10 most photogenic locations in the world is the island of Gozo. We were lucky enough to spend a full month there, and the crystal waters and unique rock formations blew us away. The island is pretty small, and that allows you to see some incredible places in a short amount of time. Definitely one for the photographer’s list.
