10 Trips To Take With Your Mom

It’s international Mother’s Day, and neither Stevo or I are with our Mom. Sadly that’s one of the hefty prices we have to pay whilst choosing to travel non-stop – we can’t simply get into our car, and head on over for tea and cake with our favourite lady(ies).

We can, however, Skype them whilst eating cake, and chat about the next adventure, and what they’re up to today (which is exactly what our afternoon plans are today).

Maybe you too can’t be with Mom today (and of course I mean your Mom … I hope you’re not with either of our moms, LOL), but you’d like to take her away on a trip, either this time next year, or for her birthday, or just because. Well then you’re in luck, because we’ve compiled a little list of great spots to take Mother Dearest, no matter what her (and your) interests are.

Enjoy!

Stroll Around Rome In Search Of The Tastiest Pastries And Cakes

Not sure if your Mom is as much of a sweet tooth as mine, but seeking out the best pastry could be the best gift I could ever give, and what better place than the home of the Tiramisu, Gelato, and those crispy phyllo cannellonis, filled with an egg nog custard, and dusted with powdered sugar (I still haven’t forgotten about you Caffe Trastevere!)

Why you’ll love it: Searching for sweet foods in (arguably) the best cake country in the world – um, need I say more?
Why your Mom will love it more: A city like Rome has enough history and gorgeous monuments to make your search for the best cake an eventful and scenic one (not to mention Gelato stores with 150 different flavours, to include on your hunt).

Go On A Shopping Spree (Or Simply Window Shopping) In New York

Although you cannot put a price tag on Mom’s love, there’s certainly enough hefty tags on Fifth Avenue, so you might choose to do a “browsing” spree rather than a “shopping” one. Either way, whether Mom comes home with a little Tiffany box or not, the entire experience will undoubtedly be magical for both of you.

Why you’ll love it: New York. Shopping. Need I say more?
Why your Mom will love it more: Even if the only thing you buy during your spree is lunch, visiting the fashion stores in The Big Apple will leave any lady feeling inspired.

Take The Wine Route Tram In Franschhoek, South Africa

Unless you and your Mom are some of the lucky few who can call South Africa’s wine region your home, this might be one of the most unique and favorable trips you could ever take. The wine tram stops at each wine farm, giving you a chance to hop out and enjoy the sunshine, delicious Cab Sav in hand.

Why you’ll love it: Cheese boards, wine tastings, and not having to worry about who will drive home.
Why your Mom will love it more: Franschhoek is like a little gem hidden in a mountainous valley. Gorgeous views and full-bodied wine could be exactly what the two of you never knew you needed.

Visit The Keukenhof Gardens To See The Tulips In The Netherlands

Our regular readers and followers will know just how much we loved seeing the tulips a few weeks back – we have videos and photos and a blog post to prove it – and since it is so fresh in our minds, we have to list it here as one of the trips to do with Mom.

Why you’ll love it: It’s like getting your Mom a gorgeous bouquet, except there’s 7 million flowers in said bouquet.
Why your Mom will love it more: The age old gift of flowers is always appreciated, but when you go out of your way to give her the most beautiful manicured gardens in the world, well, that’s extra special.

Take A Boat Cruise In The Mediterranean

Not only will you get to enjoy all the onboard activities (think dance classes and glamorous evening events) the two of you can hop off the cruise-liner at any time (well, when it’s docked) and enjoy whichever European city you fancy. You’re getting a dream trip in one package.

Why you’ll love it: Stopping at several gorgeous European cities means the two of you will have the best collection of selfies ever.
Why your Mom will love it more: Between the onboard and off-board activities, there’s enough variety to make this one of the best trips she’ll ever take, no matter what her interests are.

Enjoy A Night At The Opera In Vienna

Do we really need an excuse to get all fancy dressed up with our Moms, to go and enjoy a magical performance? Other than great coffee and delectable Sachertorte, Vienna is known for its Opera, and there is no better place to head out at 9pm dressed to the 9’s.

Why you’ll love it: It’s so grand, you will feel like royalty.
Why your Mom will love it more: It’s so grand, she will feel like royalty 😉

Go On The Ultimate Pamper-Party-For-Two In Bali

It’s no secret that a massage can leave one feeling rejuvenated, relaxed, and somewhat like a new person. And who doesn’t love getting their nails done too? Also – facial anyone? Of course there are many places in South East Asia for a good pampering, but Bali has it all. There are a ton of resorts that cater to every need, and of course it’s great on the budget too (especially if you’ll both be getting every inch of you massaged, plucked, buffered, and lathered).

Why you’ll love it: Smoothies, juices, and yoga all in one place (for post-pamper pampering).
Why your Mom will love it more: Because if Julia Roberts chooses Bali, then all Pretty Women will choose it too.

Take A Cooking Class In India (Or Any Foreign Land Whose Food You Both Love)

Indian cuisine is some of the most aromatic and spiciest in the world, and unless your Mom is Indian, learning to cook some Biryanis and Gulab Jamun might be the most fun you two can have learning something new. If Indian doesn’t (literally) tickle your tastebuds, then try Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, or Thai.

Why you’ll love it: You can learn something new, and eat it afterwards.
Why your Mom will love it more: Teaching you things were probably some of your Mom’s fondest memories. If you can both learn something new together – well, step aside nostalgic memories – this trip could easily bump up in the ranks.

Partner this experience with all the other incredible things to do in Paris, and your Mom will undoubtedly have the time of her life.

Why you’ll love it: You’ll get to see the Mona Lisa with your most important lady.
Why your Mom will love it more: There’s really very few things that could ruin this trip, let’s be honest.

Go Back To Your Roots (Wherever Those May Be)

Chances are, your Mom (or her parents or grandparents) moved away at some point. Whether it was 30 years ago or 300 years ago, your family may have originally come from a completely different part of the world, so why not take your treasured lady on a trip down memory lane, visiting a place that’s particularly special to your family.

Why you’ll love it: It might be a beautiful and emotional trip you take, and you wouldn’t want to share it with anybody else.
Why your Mom will love it more: Feelings of nostalgia and curiosity would make this a bonding trip unlike any other.

If all these trips sound amazing, and you really have no idea which one your Mom would love, send this post to your Mom and let her choose next year’s gift, today.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing Moms out there!
