27 Sep Seville In Spain: Living Like Royalty In One Of Europe’s Oldest Towns

Our TLC / BD trip* continued, and the next stop on the whirlwind itinerary was Seville in Spain.

Beautiful, beautiful Sevilla (as it is known by locals). Ah, what a city! Small but not cramped (I noticed even in Barcelona that the Spaniards design their cities to be quite spacious so yay for Spain), and oh so colourful! The hotels, the common areas, the little dangling bunting running across the bridges – everywhere you look there’s bright colours luring you in, shining bright with a constant sunny disposition, leaving you feeling joyful and de-stressed. Who could ask for more?

We checked in to one of the fanciest and adorned hotels we have ever seen – turns out it was designed for royalty, and for three I-still-cannot-believe-we-were-able-to-stay-there nights, we would be wandering around and sleeping in the rooms that hosted Princess Diana, Grace Kelly, Brad Pitt and President Obama. Guys, I have no words! It’s truly something magical, like out of a fairy tale. Chandeliers made from millions of tiny crystals, ballrooms with pressed ceilings, hand-made mosaic walls, and a courtyard so impressive we had to hustle our way to get security keys so that we could photograph its beauty from above.

Hotel Alfonso XIII we will never forget you, and will always remember your immensely comfortable bed (probably the best bed we’ve slept in in 19 months – and we’ve slept in 87 beds so far, so that’s a big call).

And Seville – your cute cobbled alleys and grand plazas and fountains – it felt like we had left our lives for a little while to walk around a royal dream; as if reality couldn’t dare disturb the dream that is your city. Between unguided tours of the Real Alcázar (where scenes of Game of Thrones have said to be filmed) and Plaza de España (a location chosen for Star Wars Episode II), and quick lunches around the Metropol Parasol, I couldn’t think of one reason why anyone shouldn’t see you for themselves…although be warned – legend has it that if you experience Seville’s charm for long enough (crossing the Triana Bridge, which of course we did) you will completely succumb to the city’s power, forcing you to be in love with it forever.

Well if this is not a love letter to the city of Seville, I don’t know what is.
