Paracas: Where Beaches, Islands, And Desert Dunes Come Together

Let’s be honest, most people visiting the country of Peru will be headed for the Sacred Valley of the Incas to see the ancient city of Machu Picchu (and if you are indeed one of those who will be doing so, make sure you check out our other post, where we share what else you can do in and around the Inca Valley – because there really is LOADS more to do than simply see the seventh world wonder – although when I put it like that, it’s clear why you’re headed for Machu Picchu…ok…but trust us, there is more!)

Now let’s bring your attention to another Peruvian treat – an area a little less spoken about (and a little less tourst-ridden). Allow us to introduce you (officially) to the coastal area of Paracas: a desert-, dune- and hidden-coastal-island-lover’s paradise.

We’ll allow our photos to do most of the talking in this post, but just know this – if you’re after a beach holiday, where you dine on fresh seafood ceviche, aboard a yacht cruising towards (and around) the Ballestas Isles (all home to species of Penguin, Pelican, Seal, and tens of thousands of Peruvian Booby), with views of ancient hieroglyphic carvings in the nearby dunes (which you can enjoy from up close too, whilst sand dune-ing and/or 4×4-ing, as you chase the sunset to your tented dinner in the desert, under millions of stars) then stop Googling “best destinations to visit in 2018” and book yourself a trip to Paracas now – romantic rooms at Hotel Paracas optional (but highly recommended).
