One of the joys of using a service like Workaway to travel, is having the ability to explore the area you’re staying in, including nearby towns and villages. During our recent month staying with our new friends Michele and Laura, volunteering at The Pet’s Academy (where we learnt about dog psychology and pet training), we managed to squeeze in a quick trip to the nearby student town, Perugia. This little Umbrian gem is home to some of the most beautiful Italian structures, with hints of Etruscan, Medieval and Renaissance influences seen throughout the city. I was also VERY happy to discover that my childhood love, Baci (the small round Italian chocolates wrapped in the iconic silver and blue wrapping) originate from Perugia,...

Our belief to say “yes” to everything was once again put to the test when we arrived in Athens. We, by chance, bumped into our friends Bernie & Anthi aka Mr & Mrs Smit, who were staying a mere 1.8km away from us (still can’t believe our luck) and before we knew it, we were agreeing to a Greek wedding invitation. Crazy! Fireworks, beautiful bride and groom arriving on a boat (we even got the bride to hold our board), and partying ’til sunrise on the beach was exactly what our big, fat Greek wedding experience gave us. We learned to dance the Kalamatiano, and snacked on loukoumades (the sweetest little Greek doughnuts; I believe the recipe will be on the...

Ok, ok, we’re going to come right out and say it. Copenhagen is exactly what you think it is. It’s beautiful, charming, design-focused, filled with Neoclassical architecture, and its many streets, bridges and alleys are astutely arranged to be bike-friendly. It’s also the one city we’ve both been dying to see since, well, we can remember, so this was a special trip. We arrived in the city two days before my 30th birthday, giving us enough time to familiarize ourselves with the hot spots (and our hostel, where we ended up counting down to the end of my twenties the next day). Our friend Ant flew in from London to join the celebrations, and once all three of us had...

We’re obsessed with Skillshare. We are genuinely and wholeheartedly in love with it. Little sick? Maybe. But it’s why we feel it necessary to write a whole series dedicated to the knowledge-sharing-and-soul-inspiring online platform. Imagine being able to break away from everything that’s using up your energy (your work, your friends, your responsibilities), and for [insert course duration] you’re locked inside a room with a creative genius, as they walk you through their processes, their thinking, and they share all the little tricks they’ve learned in their profession, with you. Amazing! Then at the end of said course, there’s a little pot of gold with your name on it, inspiring you to pick up your [insert creative apparatus here], sending...

I’m writing this at the back of a green ’82 Mitsubishi kombi, Stevo on my right, our new friends, Stefan and Stephy in the front, and a gorgeous white Siberian Husky named Mansi, in the back. It’s 1:03am and the sun is not even remotely close to setting…in fact, the next time this town will see darkness will be July 28th. We are just over half way through our road trip to the North Cape — 71 degrees North, and the northern most point of Europe. Our bags are packed with local Norwegian beer, camera gear, woolen undergarments (which we’ll wear in our four-season sleeping bags), and sausages (that will be poked with sticks we find, and placed on a...
