10 Incredible Experiences To Have In Morocco

10 Incredible Experiences To Have In Morocco

In light of the recent coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, not a lot of people will be travelling at the moment. Travel is a luxury and privilege, which even we are having to reconsider for the foreseeable future. But we know a time will come when we’ll all be free to roam and explore again (Morocco and other beautiful places), so until then, we will continue to dream, sharing inspiring stories and travel tips that you can bookmark for a more relevant time.

This week we’re venturing virtually to the colourful North African kingdom of Morocco. It’s a country full of history and rich culture (and not to mention, a ton of Instagram-worthy photo spots), so while we plan our first trip there, we hope to inspire you by sharing some of the experiences that are on our bucket list.

10 Incredible Experiences To Have In Morocco

Explore The Best Spots For Shopping In Marrakech

The brilliant minds behind Moroccan Must Haves have created an e-guide with the perfect day-tour for you to explore the most photogenic spots, and some of the best places to shop in the souks in Marrakech (to make sure you go home with extra luggage, of course). The package includes a mini souk tour e-guide, a list of the best shops and where to find them, Instagram-worthy cafe spots for lunch, and the option to chat via Instagram DM to answer all your questions during the tour (or when you accidentally get lost).

Go On An Immersive Travel Experience in Morocco

We absolutely love the concept behind Magic Bus Morocco: “to provide an immersive travel experience that will intimately connect you with artisan craft, local culture and the exponential creative wonder of Morocco.” We’re so ready to sign up, and we haven’t even heard where we’re going yet! But on a serious note, if you’re looking for a unique and sustainable way to see Morocco’s creative and cultural side (and take the routes less traveled), look no further than Magic Bus Morocco.

Take A Camel Ride At Sunset

No Moroccan adventure is complete without a ride on a camel. There are several tour providers available in different parts of the country, but if you’re staying in Marrakech and don’t want to travel much further, there’s an hour-long camel ride experience you can book on Airbnb Experiences, taking place in the heart of the palm grove (inclusive of the mandatory mint tea break). Since this is a verified animal experience on Airbnb, you know that the animals are well taken care of, and the guide sticks to guidelines created with World Animal Protection.

Cook A Traditional Meal With A Moroccan Family

Ok this experience is great, because you technically don’t have to travel to Morocco to do this. Yup, even now during #stayathome times, you can enjoy Moroccan cuisine thanks to the new Airbnb Online Experiences on offer. We chose to cook with Kawtar and her mother Khmisa – both really friendly and happy to answer any questions we had about Morocco (while we spent two hours making our apartment smell like the streets of Marrakech).

Co-working in Casablanca

Maybe you’re traveling to Morocco on business, and need somewhere to hot desk for a couple of days? Netspace (located in the largest Moroccan city, Casablanca), claims to offer so much more than just a shared workspace: “It is a place of exchange, where the most enterprising minds meet for the sole purpose of stimulating your creativity,” which sounds pretty good to us. Their space looks very modern and well equipped too, so we’re definitely adding it to our list of places to hang out when in Casablanca.

Learn About Leather Tanning

Handcrafted goods form such a big part of Moroccan culture, and one way you get to experience that is by visiting the famous leather tanneries in Fez. We’ve read that the smell is something to be desired (since the 11th century method of dying leather – which they still practice today – requires mixing the colour dyes with bird poop), but it will be well worth it after seeing all those colourful vats. It’s also worth mentioning that this experience is free (so don’t be fooled into thinking that you need to pay), although tips are always appreciated.
