01 Dec 5 Days In Banff National Park
If you’re an Instagram-addict like us, and follow an array of travel adventure photographers like we do, chances are you’ve seen pictures of Banff National Park. Whether it’s reflection shots of the Lake Louise boat house, canoe point-of-view photos, or the epic and unmatched vista of the Ten Peaks almost brooding behind Lake Morraine, you’ve looked at photos of Banff and thought to yourself, “Ok, where on Earth is this magical place where the waters are so turquoise, and the mountain caps are so perfectly snow-capped, that it can just take all my money because I want to see it for myself?!”
Well, at least that’s what we thought, and is exactly why we flew our butts over into Alberta, rented a slightly-less-than-sexy motorhome in Calgary, and drove out to one of the most pristine and naturally-crafted places in the world – Banff National Park, aka the big B (at least that is what it will be known as from now on to us), and the oldest national park in Canada.
Our 5-day camping trip through Banff National Park was quite something (not only because we managed to explore one of the most beautiful places in the world, and whilst doing so, successfully tick off number 40 of our Wanderlist, of course) but because we managed to experience two seasons in that short space of time – the warm and ashy colors of Fall, and the completely-coated-in-snow Winter tones. We’re not sure if this happens at the same time each year, but we visited from 5-10 October in 2016 and we were lucky to have the weather change. Needless to say, we visited the godly Lake Louise twice (hence the array of photos below) and did a Facebook Live during the snowstorm.
We drove down Icefields Parkway (only but the best road in the world….ok, one of), spotting a Mommy and Baby Bear running during the snowstorm (not kidding!), stopping for the ultimate #Puddlegram, and finding (probably my new favorite lake in the world) Peyto Lake – just look at it – it’s in the shape of a WOLF! What’s not to love!?
We explored little Banff Town, took a dip in the upper hot springs (and I got to wear swimwear from the 1930s #WhenInBanff), sadly didn’t see the Ten Peaks when visiting Moraine Lake (the joy of nature photography being 100% dictated by Mother Nature), but finally got to meet up with our friend @BrianFulda, met a fellow long-term traveler @Drake_Wallace, and made a new friend, fellow photographer @King_Roberto.
Banff, you seriously blew us away and if we were looking for a place to spend 6-months for an artist’s residency, you would be in our top 2 choices (competing with Bad Gastein in Austria, of course).
