21 Dec A Quick Stop In Engelberg, Switzerland
Different from our usual just-the-two-of-us trips, we recently took the Topdeck Travel Trail to the Alps tour, for a group travel experience of a lifetime. 18 days, 8 countries, 14 cities, and a group of 29 strangers who have proven that the best part of travel is the people you meet along the way.
The next city on our Trail to the Alps tour was Engelberg.
If you can imagine a small town with one main street, one cute church, and a dozen wooden lodges found up on mountain completely covered in snow, then you have Engelberg.
Cute, cosy and quaint, the lodge we stayed in was the perfect spot to wake up from, and see the Swiss Alps outside our top-floor window. They really are as impressive as all the tour books and blogs describe them. Massive rocky mountains, with sharp points and frosted terrain. It’s nature’s way of showing off, I’m convinced.
Without the right budget for skiing or snowboarding, we decided to rent a sled instead, and trek up one of the most impressive mountains of them all, Mount Titlis, stopping only to take in the tiny town views, test the sled on the way-too-soft snow, and eat snowballs (it was Swiss Alp snow – you would’ve eaten it too!)
After four incredible hours, which had me, I must admit, a little happy-teary from the sheer beauty of the surroundings (and also a little wet from the knee-deep-in-snow hike), we reached the snowy playground where all forms of snow sports were being enjoyed. After a quick beer and some sledding on the kiddie slopes, we decided to take the beautiful scenic cablecar trip down, then head back to our lodge for cheese fondue and a night with our Top Deck crew.
Switzerland – we only got a taste of you (quite literally) and we’re in love. We will no doubt be back, you beautiful, beautiful spectacle of nature!

Posted at 11:13h, 22 DecemberOnce again guys, awesome, inspiring photographs. I absolutely adore Switzerland and took Louise across the Alps on a road trip back in 2012. You cannot appreciate the true majesty of The Alps unless you see them with your own eyes. We too cannot wait to go back. Have a great Christmas guys, wherever you are 🙂
