12 Jul Sailing In Ibiza, Spain
Our motto and motivation is to “collect experiences, not things”. Whilst on our journey, we’re aiming to spend our time and money on spectacular experiences, to be left with incredible learnings and memories, not tangible objects. This way, we’re sure to keep our lives light without additional luggage, but also be the change we want to see in the world.
Our next featured experience is the Topdeck Travel tour, Ibiza Sailing.
Sailing is not entirely new to us. We enjoyed some land-less living on the beautiful waters of the Aegean Sea, this time last year, when we visited our amazing friends from Live-Bio. We lived in close proximity, as we sailed through Greek islands, learning how one hand always belongs to the boat, and how sometimes you need more than just one hand to use the toilet flusher #truestory.
So we’re not completely clueless about sailing.
But that being said, no prior knowledge of sailing was needed for our most recent wet excursion with our friends from Topdeck Travel, who have recently added Ibiza to their sailing armor. Let us tell you why…
For one, each trip comes with an up-for-anything Trip Leader (or at least Hannah, our TL, was) and a strong Spanish skipper who, besides maybe making the boat fly like one of those flying fish, can and will organize anything your heart desires.
Crystal, clear aquamarine waters? You’ll get those. Breathtaking sunsets? Yup. A chance to stop and swim (or paddle board) at the peak hours of the Ibizan heat? Uh ha. Deliciously fresh seafood from the ocean? Yes, you’ll get some. Late nights partying at Ibiza’s hot spots? Of course. A chance to explore the old town, and see authentic Ibizan way of life? You didn’t even have to ask.
This trip has it all, and surprisingly, so much more.
When you first think of Ibiza, almost instantly, you picture late night partying, night clubs, heavy drinking (or pill popping, just to show Avicci you’re cool, right?), and maybe the balearic house scene (and I’m not talking about a fancy four-walled structure). After spending nearly a week sailing around the island, with some amazing new friends and only the Mediterranean guiding us, I can safely say that Ibiza is soooooo much more than that.
From the surrounding magic rock formations, rocky beaches reached by kayak, the sunsets at Cala D’hort and the sunrises at Formantera, to the sunny staircase on the mainland leading you up to views of the city that will take your breath away, and the pristine wooden decks to lounge on, while you cruise with the wind (quite literally) blowing your hair back, there really is so much more to see on the island, besides the cherry-adorned dance floors.
Don’t get me wrong – the nightlife is sensational, and if you’re keen for clubbing, then yes, this island and tour can offer it, but if you really want to see Ibiza, like really see it, and experience it in all its shiny Spanish daytime glory (sunbathing and snorkeling included) you’ve come to the right place.
Thank you #Topdecker’s for the laughs and unforgettable boat-sharing, and thank you Ibiza – we can’t express enough how you were completely different to what we expected (in a really, really good way).
