82,899km Later, We Made It To London

Home to the Union Jack, Queen Elizabeth’s guards, (currently) the world’s largest Ferris wheel, and the original underground train line, London, let me just say, is on a completely different level.

This was not our first trip to London. We galavanted through the British streets back in 2012, on a Eurotrip that inspired us to come back to Europe. It was pleasant to see that not much has changed in three years, and, if anything, London has gotten more beautiful.

We were lucky to visit the European Instagram headquarters on this trip, to have lunch with some of the world’s coolest and smartest people (they really are). The offices too were (unsurprisingly) fabulous – with game rooms, nap pods and a sweet dispenser that would turn anyone into a sugarholic. Thanks Mareike for the tour! We’ll be back for some candy sooooon.

Having a lot of friends in London, meant we could tour the streets like locals, enjoying pooch-filled walks in the Kensington Gardens in Hyde Park, and moody Sunday strolls at Box Hill in Surrey, to vibrant walks along Oxford Street (during, probably the busiest retail weekend of the year), and London pub drinks nights.

I’m sad we missed the Natural History Museum this time round (still one of my favourite day trips to date), but instead we enjoyed many iconic stops at London Eye, Big Ben, and Tower Bridge (as one does when one visits London as a tourist) and a quick pop in at Covent Garden, which really does look incredible during the festive season. It was also refreshing to experience the end of year festivities held at Southbank, devouring street food and warm ciders at the Rekordelig Cider Lodge and Christmas market.

Massive thanks to all our friends and guides – Ant, Justin, Denis, Mel, Finley, and Iain. We will certainly see you all again soon!
