30 Sep Tips for Planning the Ultimate Romantic Getaway
If you saw our most recent Instagram post, we’ve been together for eleven years now – it’s crazy how time flies. Six of those eleven, we’ve spent together 24/7, not leaving each other’s side. Some would say that’s pretty full on, but it’s worked for us. The one thing that definitely brings us closer, is a romantic getaway. Just a few days for us to focus on relaxing and spoiling each other. That being said, we all know travel can be stressful at times, so we’ve jotted down a few thoughts on how you can get the most out of your trip away with your significant other.
Plan Everything Together
There’s not much point to going away with your loved one, if you are not allowing them to be part of the organisational process. This is actually part of the fun. For most of our regular travel trips, Chanel plans the A-to-Z of it all, but sometimes I like to get involved too. It’s great for both of you to write down all of your favourite destinations, and then make a bucket list of all the things that you would love to do together (similar to our Wanderlist).
It Doesn’t Have To Be 5 Star
People often think that in order to have a romantic getaway it has to be in lavish luxury. Don’t get us wrong, sometimes 5 star is the way to go, but if you are a little more budget-conscious, don’t let that deter you from having that special time away. Finding somewhere budget-friendly, comfortable, and familiar is sometimes all you need. Remember it’s the small things you do together that will define the trip away.
Devices Off May Lead To Clothes Off
See this little romantic getaway as an opportunity to go offline and unplug. We did this in Sweden and we ended up talking to each other more during those times where we would rather just reach for the phone. It really changed the mood of the trip, in a good way. We are often so scared to turn off our mobiles incase of an emergency or the like, we get that, but at least try turn them off for a few hours of the day where you can both connect on a different level.
Off Season FTW
The best way for you to kill a romantic mood would be for you to travel during the high season. There are huge crowds, transport is packed, and you may even find that everything costs more. If you want to have the best vacation, then make sure that you stay away from peak periods. If this is not possible, then avoid going abroad, or look for somewhere that (although is peak season) isn’t as busy as other tourist destinations. You don’t have to go far to feel like you have been away.
Avoid Family Resorts
By choosing a resort or villa that is adults-only or is very secluded, you will set the mood from the start. Imagine staying in a bamboo villa in the heart of the Indonesian jungle with a small river running past – how romantic does that sound?! Listen, don’t get us wrong, we love kids, and family holidays are golden, but if you have a choice for a romantic getaway, a more ‘adult focused’ resort will only enhance your trip.
Have A Day To Be Spontaneous
If you have been an avid reader of this blog, you will know we love planning, but having a strict schedule often takes the fun out of a trip, and just adds extra stress. Leave some days where you can do a spur-of-the-moment outing. We often find that once you get to your destination, speaking to a local or booking a local experience is highly beneficial, as the locals often know the best things to do, and places to go.
Plan For Some Alone Time
Sure, exploring is great, but at the end of the day, it’s all about you and your loved one. Having a day or three where you just relax in your room or by the pool with just the two of you, might end up being the most memorable time. Bringing a little surprise for your partner might also spice that time up a bit. Getting them something personal like a name necklace (that’s trending at the moment) or a fragrance from their favourite cosmetic brand, can go a long way.
