22 Sep Three Adventures You Can Have In Mauritius
Much more than just another island in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is an idyllic paradise embellished with stunning landscapes, world-class beaches, and endless opportunities for adventure. It’s no wonder Chanel & Stevo have visited it twice. If you’re looking for unique ways to explore this tropical Eden of East Africa, here are three things to add to your itinerary.
Discover The Underwater Worlds
The beauty of Mauritius extends far beyond its sandy borders, spilling out into the colourful Indian Ocean. There are several ways to explore the enchanting waters here, but two of the best are snorkelling and undersea walking. There are plenty of spots around the coast perfect for a snorkelling experience, including Flic En Flac and Trou Aux Biches. Or, for a more immersive experience, strap on your breathing apparatus and walk through the subaquatic landscape amongst schools of fish and eye-catching coral reefs.
However you choose to do it, exploring the underwater world along the Mauritian coast is a must for any visitor. And, with an average of nine sunshine hours each day between October and December, you won’t take long drying off after a dive in the Indian Ocean when visiting in the winter months.
Venture To Seven Coloured Earth And Chamarel Waterfall
Emblematic of Mauritius’ endless wild charm, the Seven Coloured Earth site is a naturally formed, kaleidoscopic masterpiece nestled in the southwestern corner of the island. The vividly coloured sand dunes are protected from human interference, but you can still marvel at the sight from the various observation outposts.
Neighbouring the dunes you’ll find another natural wonder in Chamarel Waterfall. Not only is Chamarel the highest waterfall on the island, it’s unquestionably one of the most visually stunning spots too. After admiring the view, take a dip in the plunge pool below the waterfall – the perfect tonic after hiking to the site. For safety reasons and to gain access to exclusive trails, it’s advisable to explore the waterfall on a guided tour, but you also have the option to find your own way.
Awaken Your Senses At Bois Chéri Tea Plantation
Bois Chéri is the first and largest tea-processing plant on the island, and is worth a visit for a whole host of reasons. Dating back to the 1800s, you can take a journey through time as you wander around the plantation, learning about the growing and harvesting methods used through the years.
As well as getting a greater insight into the history of the island and its tea-producing roots, you’ll be treated to unforgettable views of the plantation and surrounding areas that will linger in your mind long after the taste of tea has evaporated. So make sure to pack up your camera. And of course, as with any good tour, you’ll be treated to a tea sampling session at the end, where you can savour the unique blends that are concocted on the estate.
If a week spent just lounging on Mauritian sand wouldn’t satisfy your wanderlust, consider adding these adventures to your itinerary. These are just a handful of the many memorable activities that await you on the island, so start planning your East African adventure today.
