After recent city explorations in Athens, Florence, Perugia and Istanbul, one of our favourite travel companions Langly, challenged us to #PackAndGo get back into the wilderness, like we did in the summer in Norway and Sweden. As we're both lovers of the outdoors and the environment, we couldn't have run out of our accommodation fast enough. We started thinking about the crisp fresh air, wild landscapes, indigenous wildlife, mirrored lakes and never-ending hiking trails that we experienced just a few short months ago, and it made us hungry to get out again. So our trek into the serene meadows of Austria began. We soon realized, that a life outdoors is so incredibly natural for us, that we almost blended into our surroundings; we became tiny specks in...

Give me an option to shoot one photo to hang up above our imaginary fireplace in our imaginary home, and it will be a person silhouetted against any dramatic 'scape (land, sea or sky) with soft early morning sunlight illuminating the fog around them. The adventure silhouette is my weakness. If done properly, the viewer is left almost speechless, and is itching to get out there to do the same. I think the main reason these photos are so alluring, is because they create such magical and fantastical scenes; more than just a portrait of a person in the outdoors. They represent the relationship between humans and the untamed wild. They are the cover photos of the adventure photography page. So, what's the...

After being gone exactly 6 months, I feel it necessary we share the uglier side of our trip. Browsing through our blog posts and Instagram feed, it seems like we're having the time of our lives. And don't get me wrong – we are. It's bloody amazing. But it's not all ice-creams in the sun and pretty landscapes. Noooooo. So far, I think we've tallied 135 toilets scrubbed, 250 kilos of cow dung spread, 2 tons of rocks shovelled, 60 metres of pathway laid, 57 beds made, and I cannot even remember how many wine glasses we've polished. You see, to come from the luxuries we left behind in Johannesburg, to the brutal truth of volunteer work, we are now on the opposite end...

The age-old fray stands – you get people who love dogs, and you get people who love cats. We, proudly, are the former and will stop at nothing to get ourselves in front of the friendly, wagging slobberers. Lucky for us (and the Internet), dog photography has picked up dramatically in the past couple of years, and with it a string of creative pet owners and photo curators. Instagram itself has taken a giant pounce towards supporting furry models with their #WeeklyFluff insert every Monday, and with hashtags like "dog" and "dogsofinstagram" reaching over a hundred million tags, it's no wonder dogs and their humans are getting dressed up for the occasion. With such a rise in well-timed pooch photography, our quest for...

Spending over a month looking after Alaskan and Siberian Huskies within the Arctic Circle definitely left an impression on us. Using the landscapes of Northern Norway, and combining them with striking photos of the dogs, we created portraits that captured our time there better than I could have said in words. Before embarking on our journey, we created our Wanderlist. It's our list of wishes and needs, and the reasons why we quit our jobs in the first place. It's a list we worked on together, and decided to use as a guide for our sabbatical. Most recently, we decided to tick off number 37: "go unplugged for a month". After nearly 15 years of daily digital interactions, we saw it as therapy (and an experiment) to go one solid month without social media, blogging, fancy applications, or the Internet. We allowed ourselves to stay 100% in each moment, and use tech only for creation i.e. cameras for photo taking, iPad for eBook reading and note taking, and our laptop for illustration,...

We're obsessed with Skillshare. We are genuinely and wholeheartedly in love with it. Little sick? Maybe. But it's why we feel it necessary to write a whole series dedicated to the knowledge-sharing-and-soul-inspiring online platform. Imagine being able to break away from everything that's using up your energy (your work, your friends, your responsibilities), and for [insert course duration] you're locked inside a room with a creative genius, as they walk you through their processes, their thinking, and they share all the little tricks they've learned in their profession, with you. Amazing! Then at the end of said course, there's a little pot of gold with your name on it, inspiring you to pick up your [insert creative apparatus here], sending you...

We're so lucky to be meeting some amazing people on our journey. When we first planned our trip, it was all about the places and experiences. We're quickly realizing that it's the people that make the places more memorable, and really make the experiences. Our first featured friend is Stefan Dahlqvist. We first met Stefan when we arrived in Alta, Norway. He looks exactly like what you'd expect a hip Scandanavian dog-loving musher to look like — well dressed with a heavy beard and 11 dogs in tow. Obviously. What you don't get at first glance, though, is how amazingly talented he is. Stefan has been a dog musher for the past 10 years. He's visited some of the most scenic snowy places...
