Iguazú Falls

Iguazú Falls lies on the border between Argentina and Brazil and encompasses a sizable waterfall system. The location became a World Heritage Site for its natural beauty and biodiversity. Here, you can see around 2,000 plant species and 400 types of birds, including the rare harpy eagle.

It’s easy for you to be mesmerized by the waterfalls. They’re massive and occupy nearly 3 kilometers of the Iguazú River. The most popular location might be Devil’s Throat, one of the largest waterfalls on the border. The ecosystem produces an unforgettable misty spectacle for travelers.

Cliffs of Moher

Dramatic seascapes are among the most popular places to visit in Ireland, particularly on the west coast. Head to County Clare to see the Cliffs of Moher along the Atlantic Ocean. These cliffs are a masterpiece, offering postcard-worthy views of the sea. You can also see the Aran Islands and the diverse ecosystem.

The Cliffs of Moher are special due to local myths, such as Mal, the sea witch. This natural wonder also appeared in films like “The Princess Bride” and the Harry Potter movies. If you love birdwatching, it could be the place for you. Puffins, guillemots and razorbills are frequent visitors during the warmer months.

Santa Catalina Island

Santa Catalina Island is just off the coast of Los Angeles. However, it feels like a Mediterranean getaway in the Pacific Ocean. The island is unique because most locals drive golf carts rather than cars. Head to the town of Avalon for a pedestrian-focused area without traffic lights.

The California island is renowned for its marine environment, especially during bioluminescent events. This phenomenon originates from chemical reactions and causes plankton to produce light. For travelers, the result is a glowing Pacific Ocean at night. Experts say Santa Catalina Island travelers see bioluminescence as spring transitions to summer.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Sandstone pillars and otherworldly natural wonders define Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. This recreational area in China is famous for inspiring the Hallelujah Mountains in “Avatar.” Over 1,000 Zhangjiajie towers reach 200 meters above sea level, though they were once submerged beneath the ocean.

Tectonic forces eventually raised the bedrock above sea level over millions of years, creating a stunning landscape. When visiting, prioritize the Golden Whip Stream for valley walks and wild monkey sightings. You can also take a cable car to Tianzi Mountain, home to thin pillars and a sea of clouds.

Pamukkale Hot Springs

Turkey is famous for its Mediterranean climate and rich history of empires. Between the skyline and hot air balloons, you’ll find hot springs in Pamukkale. The landscape is among the top natural wonders due to its warm waters and white terraces. Traveling here could be among your ideas for a wellness-focused trip, as some associate the hot springs with relaxation (side note: highly recommended by Chanel & Stevo, by the way).

Pamukkale, also called the “cotton castle” of southwest Turkey, is known for its white travertine slopes that stand out against the blue mineral water. Once the sun sets, you see unforgettable surfaces with pink hues. Take advantage of thermal bathing in the relaxing waters, especially in Cleopatra’s Pool.

Appreciating Global Natural Wonders

These destinations are only a glimpse into the planet’s collection of masterpieces. Each continent presents opportunities to connect with the natural world on profound levels. Besides checking off a bucket list, you’re witnessing the planet’s artistry and power. Volcanoes, deserts and hot springs are excellent places for your next adventure.
