02 Mar 10 Years Of How Far From Home
We’re feeling very emotional, nostalgic, humbled, proud, and actually in a little bit of disbelief, that it has been 10 YEARS since we quit our jobs, sold (almost all of) our belongings, and boarded our first plane with a one-way ticket, four bags, and a dream to see the world and be creative along the way.
Wow!!
So much has happened, so much has changed – we’ve changed…it’s been a journey of discovery, of growth, of hard work, of evolution, and of magic.
Little 29 year old Chanel and Stevo had no idea that after 10 years we’d be where we are today – a family of 3, happily married, having survived a pandemic, back on South African soil, having visited 67 countries, over 830,000 km traveled, and a lifetime worth of memories in our minds. And here’s a little excerpt from our very first blog post, published on 2 March 2015:
“So goodbye home. We’re leaving our fears, our unnecessary-stuff, and our safe, comfortable routines with you. Let’s see how far we can get from you.”
While I write this with tears in my eyes, I want to say THANK YOU – some of you have been with us since the beginning, stuck with us through it all, and some joined us somewhere along the way. We couldn’t have done it without you, so thank you for sticking with us, for the continued support, for all the kind words over the years, and for the motivation to keep going.
At such a pivotal milestone it’s always tempting to ask, “what’s next?” But we’re not going to do that today 😅 We’re just going to have some cake (Chanel), some beer (Stevo), and maybe show Elodie some of our early board shots (which we’ve compiled below if any of you want to go down memory lane with us).
