Having spent just three short days in this magical town, I can now totally relate to my mom's dream of visiting Florence. It's as special and romantic as the clichés make it out to be, and I would honestly spend all my Autumns here if I could. We first arrived in Florence (en route to our next Workaway), stopping for just one night to breathe in some fresh Tuscan air (and to eat big cheesy pizzas and mouth-watering gelatos, obviously!) What soon followed, was a we-got-lost-and-loved-it tour of the city centre, stopping at the grand Il Duomo di Firenze (holy hell this is a GORGEOUS creation), crossing the unique structure of Ponte Vecchio, and ending up at Piazzale Michelangelo to view...

Our belief to say "yes" to everything was once again put to the test when we arrived in Athens. We, by chance, bumped into our friends Bernie & Anthi aka Mr & Mrs Smit, who were staying a mere 1.8km away from us (still can't believe our luck) and before we knew it, we were agreeing to a Greek wedding invitation. Crazy! Fireworks, beautiful bride and groom arriving on a boat (we even got the bride to hold our board), and partying 'til sunrise on the beach was exactly what our big, fat Greek wedding experience gave us. We learned to dance the Kalamatiano, and snacked on loukoumades (the sweetest little Greek doughnuts; I believe the recipe will be on the Mr...

Give me an option to shoot one photo to hang up above our imaginary fireplace in our imaginary home, and it will be a person silhouetted against any dramatic 'scape (land, sea or sky) with soft early morning sunlight illuminating the fog around them. The adventure silhouette is my weakness. If done properly, the viewer is left almost speechless, and is itching to get out there to do the same. I think the main reason these photos are so alluring, is because they create such magical and fantastical scenes; more than just a portrait of a person in the outdoors. They represent the relationship between humans and the untamed wild. They are the cover photos of the adventure photography page. So, what's the...

I recall waking up at 6am to the sound of cicadas on a nearby island. Opening my eyes, I saw perfectly blue skies, and felt morning dew on my feet. I looked over at Stevo lying next to me, and realized that we had just spent our first night on a sailing boat, drifting gently to the wake of the Aegean Sea. This was the first of four nights we would spend on Naziara, the floating vessel we would temporarily call home. In an attempt to tick off number 7 from our Wanderlist, (sail through the Greek isles), we visited our friends from Live-Bio to enjoy three beautiful weeks exploring the Peloponnese. From 40 degree walks through olive groves, and sunset yoga classes on the...

    Austria / 19.08.2015

After spending 10 weeks in Scandinavia, exploring Oslo, looking after puppies in Alta, road tripping through southern Norway, renting bikes in Copenhagen, spotting moose in Kallsedet, and getting lost in Stockholm, our travels brought us back to Austria, to tick off number 6 from our Wanderlist: Go down the wooden slide in Hallstatt. We visited Austria earlier this year, and we could have slipped a Hallstatt visit into the itinerary then, but after seeing this charming sunny village nestled in the Austrian Alps, and swimming in the crystal blue water of Lake Hallstatt, we are sooooo glad we chose to wait for Summer. Arriving at 6am proved to be the best decision, as we were able to see the views with gentle sunrise lighting, and...

From wet ferry rides to museum-filled islands, and inspiring photography hubs with views of city skyline sunsets, our visit to Stockholm has to be one of our favourite city-in-twenty-four-hours trips thus far. Not only did this Scandanavian beauty welcome us with its many beautiful sightings and special "Fika" rituals, we found ourselves leaving creatively enriched. Highlights include taking a silly photo at the ABBA museum (for my mom of course), gandering with geese at the lake side parks, and spending nothing short of three hours at the Fotografiska Museum of Photography, where three new How Far From Home project ideas were born (watch this space). Big thanks goes to @amvphotography_ on Instagram who suggested a visit to the museum. To say that...

Last night we watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty again. Not only did we nod along to every song (since we've been listening to the soundtrack on loop since we left Johannesburg), and appreciate the breathtaking cinematography a little more, but I feel like I finally understood the meaning of his "zone out moments". If you haven't seen the movie yet, (I sincerely think you should cancel your Friday night plans and buy/rent/download it), you'll see Walter drifting into these imaginative visions throughout the movie. He lives a pretty boring, safe and routine-led life, yet his imagination takes him away from it. He conjures up exotic locations, fantastical powers and weird resolutions to his everyday occurrences. But by the end of...

Spending over a month looking after Alaskan and Siberian Huskies within the Arctic Circle definitely left an impression on us. Using the landscapes of Northern Norway, and combining them with striking photos of the dogs, we created portraits that captured our time there better than I could have said in words. We went on the most scenic road trip in the world. Bold statement – yes. A little biased towards this Nordic wonderland – definitely. Enough footage to prove it – we'll let you be the judge. Having arrived in Bergen with no plans or expectations, we somehow managed to meet a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend who was kind enough to play hostess. We received a personalized tour of the cobbled city streets, a very comfortable bed belonging to a beautiful aspiring 13yr old blogger, and an evening involving a silent concert in front of the Lille Lungegårdsvann, as part of the annual Bergen International Festival. It was the perfect start to this leg of our journey. Thanks again Kat, Maria, Max and Martina. After a quick trip to...

We're obsessed with Skillshare. We are genuinely and wholeheartedly in love with it. Little sick? Maybe. But it's why we feel it necessary to write a whole series dedicated to the knowledge-sharing-and-soul-inspiring online platform. Imagine being able to break away from everything that's using up your energy (your work, your friends, your responsibilities), and for [insert course duration] you're locked inside a room with a creative genius, as they walk you through their processes, their thinking, and they share all the little tricks they've learned in their profession, with you. Amazing! Then at the end of said course, there's a little pot of gold with your name on it, inspiring you to pick up your [insert creative apparatus here], sending you...
