We finally did it! We experienced an entire winter in Europe, and we’ve come out on the other side (just about), having survived the cold! WOOOOOHOOOOOOO! Ok, this may not be a big deal for most of you, but for us brought-up-under-the-African-sun, skin-only-equipped-for-heat, cannot-even-fathom-minus-20 kids (can I still call us kids?) this is a HUGE achievement. Especially since we ventured out into some of the coldest climates on Earth this past Winter, including a little place called Jyväskylä a.k.a. Finnish Lakeland, and the Arctic Circle at the top of Norway where the Sami people live (that’s me below, wrapped up and looking fabulous for -35C).     Now, if you’re reading this in hope of some serious scientific advice on the exact clothes...

As originally seen on Traveller24   It’s been a crazy, wild, unforgettable (and slightly unbelievable) journey, travelling full-time for nearly three years. We’ve done some extraordinary things, and we’ve been to places we hadn’t even heard of when we left on our trip in March 2015. But every great journey starts somewhere, and for us, it was our Wanderlist (our own affectionate term for our traveling Bucket List) that turned our “someday” dream into a tangible trip of a lifetime. Back in early 2014 (when traveling around the world was a mere figment of our ambitious imagination), we decided to write down on a piece of paper, all the wonderful dreamy things we’ve always wanted to do (you know, in case we ended...

Let me start off by saying that animal portraiture is a lot harder than it looks. We knew this from the many hours we spent 'dog stalking' back home at some of  Johannesburg's many parks. Anyone remember @PixelPaws on Instagram? Yes, that was our first 'shot' at moving-target photography. We literally have thousands of dog portraits on our hard drive, so we should look at sharing more of those...

We went on the most scenic road trip in the world. Bold statement – yes. A little biased towards this Nordic wonderland – definitely. Enough footage to prove it – we'll let you be the judge. Having arrived in Bergen with no plans or expectations, we somehow managed to meet a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend who was kind enough to play hostess. We received a personalized tour of the cobbled city streets, a very comfortable bed belonging to a beautiful aspiring 13yr old blogger, and an evening involving a silent concert in front of the Lille Lungegårdsvann, as part of the annual Bergen International Festival. It was the perfect start to this leg of our journey. Thanks again Kat, Maria, Max and Martina. After a quick trip to...

Hellooooooo Scandanavia. Gosh, you're a pretty thing. And what a treat it was to start our Nordic trip with 12hrs in Oslo. Lucky for us, the 12hrs included one of the most gorgeous sunsets we've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. After checking in to one of our favourite Airbnbs (with rare-looking blue-eyed cats), we quickly grabbed the cameras and sped down through the city square towards the National Opera House. If anything, I would compare the architecture of this one-of-a-kind glass and stone spectacle, to something you would find created for a blockbuster like The Island. Textured walls that look like Braille, angled glass walls and shiny marble stairs you can climb to view Nordic fjords, the Atlantic, and the...

Yes, walking Husky puppies in the Norwegian woods is considered a real job. 'Puppy walkers' exist, and their job description includes taking four-legged fluff balls out daily to ensure they grow up big and strong. It is even more important, when the puppies are being groomed to become racing sled dogs. A stringent walking regime preps the small clumsy pups for the real world, and if the walkers have done their job properly, the puppies can join the larger dogs on sled training as young as 6 months. The length of the walks have to gradually increase, much the same as long distance marathon runner training. Walkers try and spot qualities in the small puppies that give them an idea of...
