    New Zealand / 06.01.2017

Different from our usual just-the-two-of-us trips, we recently took a Trafalgar tour, for a group-travel experience of a lifetime. 10 days, 1 sensational country made up of 2 contrasting islands, and a collection of 39 strangers who have proven that the best part of travel is the people you meet along the way. The third city on our Contrasts of New Zealand tour was Christchurch. I remember when we arrived in Oslo in mid-2015, just a few months into our journey. I felt somewhat nostalgic, as the “slick architecture with globally-known brands plastered on top” reminded me a lot of home. When our Trafalgar tour stopped in Christchurch for a night (giving us just enough free time to mingle around the South Island’s largest city), I couldn’t help but...

    Iceland / 04.08.2016

I must begin this post by apologizing to our regular readers. We've been really quiet (on the blog) and we haven't been able to keep up with the one-blog-post-per-week frequency that we set for ourselves. But if I told you that we'd been to twelve cities in six countries this month alone, would you forgive me? Hope so #TrueStory And some of you may have noticed that our website has a new look? Well, that's a work in progress too, and we hope to "unveil" it and shout about it a bit more once it's complete - so please no judgement just yet! Now back to the topic of this post...

    Italy / 29.12.2015

Different from our usual just-the-two-of-us trips, we recently took the Topdeck Travel Trail to the Alps tour, for a group travel experience of a lifetime. 18 days, 8 countries, 14 cities, and a group of 29 strangers who have proven that the best part of travel is the people you meet along the way. The next city on our Trail to the Alps tour was Rome.   Rome is way bigger, way more energetic, and way cooler than I thought. Seriously. Stevo might not agree with this, but I could move to Rome tomorrow. I love Italy more than most countries (I might be biased as I have some Italian in my family line) so it was great to find a city that had the Italian flare, but...

    Dubai / 02.12.2015

Probably the nicest surprise on our trip so far, has been the 20hrs we spent in Dubai. A city that wasn't on our Wanderlist (until now) and one we used merely as a stop-over when traveling from Australia back to Europe, has shone through the false stories that Dubai is simply a fake world, and instead has blown us away. The idea of Dubai didn't really appeal to us. Shopping malls, big brands, fast cars and a consumerist-driven lifestyle is pretty much the opposite of what our journey stands for. We've sold our belongings, packed very few items into the four bags that we now call our cupboard, and are aiming to live with less, collecting memories not things. One could...

    Sweden / 12.08.2015

From wet ferry rides to museum-filled islands, and inspiring photography hubs with views of city skyline sunsets, our visit to Stockholm has to be one of our favourite city-in-twenty-four-hours trips thus far. Not only did this Scandanavian beauty welcome us with its many beautiful sightings and special "Fika" rituals, we found ourselves leaving creatively enriched. Highlights include taking a silly photo at the ABBA museum (for my mom of course), gandering with geese at the lake side parks, and spending nothing short of three hours at the Fotografiska Museum of Photography, where three new How Far From Home project ideas were born (watch this space). Big thanks goes to @amvphotography_ on Instagram who suggested a visit to the museum. To say that...

    Denmark / 29.07.2015

Ok, ok, we're going to come right out and say it. Copenhagen is exactly what you think it is. It's beautiful, charming, design-focused, filled with Neoclassical architecture, and its many streets, bridges and alleys are astutely arranged to be bike-friendly. It's also the one city we've both been dying to see since, well, we can remember, so this was a special trip. We arrived in the city two days before my 30th birthday, giving us enough time to familiarize ourselves with the hot spots (and our hostel, where we ended up counting down to the end of my twenties the next day). Our friend Ant flew in from London to join the celebrations, and once all three of us had a...

    Germany / 13.05.2015

There's receiving-a-weekly-fluff-calendar-addressed-to-you-from-Instagram cool. There's bumping-into-your-favourite-celebrity-at-your-local-deli cool. And then, there's Berlin. Although we only spent a couple days roaming the inner city neighborhoods, we were blown away with Berlin's ahead-of-the-curve freshness. It's as if the whole town has been painted over with a sleek design brush. Everything from the chic glass parliament buildings, to the intricate typography found on store signage. We couldn't get enough. Our day began with a cultural visit to the Berlin Wall. As children, we only read about this historical site, and it was a surreal experience to be surrounded by this powerful symbol of the world's history. As both our families were directly affected by the war, the feelings we were left with that day, will stay with us forever. In...

    South Africa / 08.02.2015

Isn’t it strange how, when you’re a tourist in a foreign place, everything you see is exciting and photo-worthy? From the gripping architecture, and unfamiliar landscapes, to the local cookery, and strangers you meet along the way. You automatically find yourself stopping to take it all in, capturing every part of your journey because you subconsciously think that you might never see or experience it again. On the contrary, when you’ve driven down the same street for decades, eaten at the same restaurants, and passed the same buildings, you forget to look. It’s as if you’re wearing blinkers, strongly forcing yourself to only focus on getting to point B. You miss out on the tourist’s perspective, taking things for granted and missing out on everything the...
