Going on an extended trip is a rewarding experience. Sure, vacations are fun, but visiting a place for two weeks or less doesn’t always give you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture of a particular destination – you always find yourself wanting more. How many times have you come home from an exciting trip and desperately wanted to head back out into the world to explore more of it? Yeah? We hear you. Exploring the world is definitely a worthwhile venture, but it’s one that takes real preparation. The following pieces of advice should help you to ensure that you’re prepared to explore the world, whether you plan on going for three months, one year, or like us, close...

We often get Instagram DMs from fellow travellers (or not-yet-traveling peers) who ask us about our cameras, our kits, and what equipment we use when hopping between countries, four bags in tow. We’ll normally respond with a very detailed message, explaining the camera equipment we’ve chosen to upgrade to, the lenses we now have in our artillery, and the apps we’ve purchased for our laptops...

Last week we reached a ridiculous, we-still-cannot-fathom-it milestone. Whilst flying over Vienna during our South-Africa-to-Amsterdam flight, we clocked over 384,400km traveled since leaving home originally on March 2nd 2015. It seems like a random number, but according to science, 384,400km (238,855 miles) is the exact distance between the Earth and the Moon. Travel goals for a couple who left home to see how far from home they could go?! Umm, YES! It’s taken us 3 years and 7 weeks to reach the moon. Sure, NASA or SpaceX could do it quicker, but would they have as many memories as us?! And would they have learned as much as us? Ok...

As a regular reader of our blog, you’re familiar with our love for life-changing experiences. You know we left our predictable life over 3 years ago, in order to see the world and collect a whole bunch of memorable experiences. You also know we’ll do anything to tick off the items from our Wanderlist. If you’re not a regular reader, and you didn’t know all that, then welcome to the first of many posts about our desire to collect memories and not things. We thought it only be right to begin this blog post with that intro, because, well, we will tell you right now that attending the festival of colours a.k.a. Holi, in the mystical land of dreams (that celebrates...

This week’s post’s goal is to inspire a little minimalism. Although we don’t shout it from the rooftops, we are huge advocates for living a simple, yet meaningful life. Since having our epiphany and giving up our work-hard-to-buy-stuff-and-then-buy-more-stuff life back in Johannesburg, to live a save-save-save-then-spend-on-experiences kind of life, we’ve had to adjust, and I mean really adjust. Besides the obvious things like furniture and house cleaning goods (because, well, we simply have no house for them), there are a few things we have actively and voluntarily removed from our lives, simply because we find no use for them anymore. So whether you’re living a 9-to-5 life like we used to, or you yourself are a full time traveller, we hope this...

    Croatia / 23.10.2017

We are three weeks into our month-long sugarmoon (you know, that special time after you get engaged?), staying on the island of Solta in Croatia, and in a very strange way, it's starting to feel a lot like home. Not home as in South Africa. Home in the ‘comfortable’ sense. Staying still for an entire month has created some stability for us, it seems. We can explore better (not rush through ticking off only a few sites), and we can act like locals – really learning about where to go for the best beer, what time you can get the best lighting for a photograph, and where the secret (or difficult-to-get-to) locations are, because, well, we have the time. Staying put also...

Machu Picchu. A place that has managed to make its way onto almost everyone's bucket list; everyone's I-do-not-care-how-but-I-need-to-go-even-if-it-is-the-last-thing-I-do Wanderlist. Go on – go through your list in your head (or have a look at the one you've been populating ever since you signed up for our online course). We're assuming Machu Picchu is on there. And why wouldn't it be?! An ancient city discovered only a little over a century ago, and, as the Lonely Planet team puts it, (it is) "the best-known archaeological site on the continent" (of South America). Of course you're going to want to see it with your own eyes, and experience that "Old Peak" (which is what Machu Picchu actually translates to #FunFact). So did we. But what...
