We’ve partnered up with global bike-sharing system Donkey Republic, and flight and accommodation search engine Momondo, to explore some of Europe’s most esteemed cities, hoping to prove that anywhere, anything, with anyone, at anytime, is simply a bike ride away…oh, and that there’s no better way to explore a city than on two wheels. Follow along in what we have affectionately called our #TourDeDonkey. Our final stop: Munich, Germany The mission: Find the most active ways to experience the city   We get it. When you arrive at Munich International Airport (from one of the flights you found on Momondo), you are more than likely going to be thinking about all the beautiful golden nectar you can drink at one...

I am going to make you want to visit Southern Germany in Winter. I’m normally quite neutral, sharing our travel stories with a gleam of hope that it’ll inspire you to go there too and create your own memories, but I never say “book soon” or “you have to go before you die”. Well this post is different. You are going to want to book soon, and I highly recommend you go before you die. Let’s begin with this shot I took on the first day of our road trip (probably my favourite photo to date – tough call, I know…but definitely in my top three). We came across this fairy-tale-like street en route to our destination. That’s right –...

We have such a special relationship with Munich. Not because we love it more than other European cities (although it’s definitely in our top 5), but because we have visited it 9 times already, and only really explored it recently, at the 12th Worldwide Instameet with the Munich Igers and our friend Ant, who joined us for yet another adventure, a.k.a AntVenture. Munich has always been our meeting point, our stopping ground, and our place for layover. Whether we were arriving from or leaving to South Africa, or simply passing through to get from one European city to another, we know the Munich Hauptbahnhof like the back of our hand (we’ve even spent a night napping on the station’s floor, waiting for a 3am...

There’s receiving-a-weekly-fluff-calendar-addressed-to-you-from-Instagram cool. There’s bumping-into-your-favourite-celebrity-at-your-local-deli cool. And then, there’s Berlin. Although we only spent a couple days roaming the inner city neighborhoods, we were blown away with Berlin’s ahead-of-the-curve freshness. It’s as if the whole town has been painted over with a sleek design brush. Everything from the chic glass parliament buildings, to the intricate typography found on store signage. We couldn’t get enough. Our day began with a cultural visit to the Berlin Wall. As children, we only read about this historical site, and it was a surreal experience to be surrounded by this powerful symbol of the world’s history. As both our families were directly affected by the war, the feelings we were left with that day, will...

It’s not everyday you get to drive into another country for the morning; at least not for a couple of South Africans. This was a quite a new concept. Chanel: “What do you want to do today?” Steve: “Not sure hey, maybe a drive to the lake?” Chanel: “How about we drive to Germany?” Being only 45 minuets away from our current location, the town of Burghausen, situated in the Altötting district, was the perfect way to spend a weekday. Hopping the border was as easy as driving across the Salzach river into the old town. You are immediately taken aback by the vibrant coloured building in the main square, but then as you look up, you see a massive...
