COLLECTING EXPERIENCES, NOT THINGS: A DAY AT THE RED BULL HANGAR-7 IN SALZBURG

Our motto and motivation is to “collect experiences, not things”. Whilst on our journey, we’re aiming to spend our time and money on spectacular experiences, to be left with incredible learnings and memories, not tangible objects. This way, we’re sure to keep our lives light without additional luggage, but also be the change we want to see in the world.

Our next featured experience is a day at the Redbull Hangar-7 in Salzburg.

As part of the 12th annual Worldwide Instameet, the Austrian Igers partnered up with Boom Creative Lab and Redbull to take us 30 odd Instagram-nuts on a never-to-be-forgotten Redbull experience. In a double-decker drum-and-bass-blowing party bus, we headed from the Salzburg Hauptbahnhof to our event’s destination – none other, than Hangar-7 at the W.A. Mozart International Airport.

First a tour of the aircraft garage, which currently holds 15 customised vehicles and ‘flying bulls’, all fully fuelled and ready for take-off at any stage. We’ve never been so close to fighter jets, and as both of us are quite anxious flyers (Stevo disliking landing, and me hating take-off), the tour itself was even somewhat hair-raising.

With bellies full of figs and fresh croissants, and introductions taken care of, we gathered around for the mandatory #WWIM12 group photo, then had a chat to three of Redbull’s own skydive team. Yes, these guys jump out of planes (willingly) for a living. Just trying to get my head around it made me dizzy, but learning that these guys have been doing it tandem since they were practically out of diapers, made me realize that all fears can be faced, with a little practice (and childhood exposure). If I ever have kids, I’ll be sure to get them to do everything before they’ve even reached puberty.

But back to our Redbull experience…

We were lucky to be two of the few who would have the ultimate Redbull experience (before dining in the Hangar-7 restaurant) to go up in one of the Redbull helicopters. Let me just say: nothing can prepare you for this! Wow! What an unbelievable experience. We did mini-flips, came face-to-face with an Austrian peak, and saw a side of Salzburg and the Austrian Lake District, very few get to see. Although I shook the entire time, and made new friends while I gripped their legs for comfort, I wouldn’t have changed it for the world.

A massive thank you to our friends Claudio, Bigii, Lisa, Victoria, the kind pilot (who kept the experience relatively relaxed for me) and the rest of the crew! It’s times like these that really make you fall in love with the power of Instagram, and the importance of collecting memories.

OMG. You guys are f*cking lucky! I dislike Red Bull as a product but am in love with what they stand for as a brand. Those pictures look insanely beautiful and I hope I get to do something like this soonish!

Haha, thanks so much Karan! You absolutely should! To be honest, we’re not adrenalin-junkies so it was crazy for us, but wow what an awesome rush! The Redbull guys (and brand) are phenomenal 🙂
