8 EXPERIENCES THAT TRUMP STUFF

Inspired by our recent experiences of attending a Greek cooking class on the island of Poros and touring Florence in a vintage Fiat 500, our quest to inspire people to #LiveWithLess has evolved to a little more than us simply telling everyone we meet to read James Wallman’s Stuffocation (which you really, really should).

Before departing on our journey, we created our Wanderlist (our version of a travel bucket list) and recently looked at it and noticed how many worthy-of-their-own-limelight experiences were on it; featuring both experiences we’ve been dying to do for years, and amazing recommendations from our community, that we hadn’t even thought of.

As a result, we have created a series of graphics that illustrate what you can get (no matter how small or exuberant your budget is), and how we believe spending the money you have on experiences, stories and memory-making, proves to be a better idea than buying yet another pair of uncomfortable heels that hurt you and only go with one outfit, or another shiny gadget because your upgrade is due and you need to replace your working-in-perfect-condition tech toy (even if you don’t trust science).

Don’t get us wrong – we are not against things that improve experiences.

We ourselves loved the vintage Fiat we drove, and the chef’s knives we used when slicing the aubergines for the Moussaka. We also own camera equipment that enhances each of our trips, and walking shoes and bags are probably our biggest weakness because we use them so often on this trip.

We do, however, feel that buying unnecessary over-priced items that you convince yourself you need, is a waste of good earned cash.

So with that in mind, check out our list of experiences that trump stuff below:

If you can think of any cool experiences that are worth more than tangible objects, feel free to add them below in the comments section, or challenge us to add them to our Wanderlist!

*We realize that besides for the locals of the areas mentioned, you would need to travel to these experiences, and that in itself will cost a lot, but with enough time spent saving and declining shopping sprees and dinner dates (we’re living proof of that), getting the transport cash won’t be so hard.

**Prices shown are ballpark figures for the experiences and products we found doing a basic search on Google.

Hey, just noticed the “we have migrated” post from Oct 15.
You failed to mention RSS in any way – or was that available only for us who already read/sub via RSS?

Looks like all old urls and links (plus their juice in the search engines) are now broken, since you changed from yymmdd folders to individual post format – and none of the old urls are forwarded to the correct one..

    Hey guys,

Don’t know if you remember me, but I’m that jr. copywriter that wrote to you a couple of months ago. Just wanted to say that I REALLY like this post, since I know how empty a consumerist culture can be – this comes from someone who has grown up in and is currently settled in Dubai.

Best wishes for your travels to Asia!

This post couldn’t be more on target. My husband and I are living out of our Sprinter Van for the next 6 weeks while we tour western America and living in less than 40 sq feet of space has taught us one thing: go home and sell it all. It’s amazing to wake up next to the ocean or walk through a market and not buy anything because you don’t have the space for it, rather simply experience it for all it’s worth and enjoyment.

Best of luck in your travels, keep enjoying our amazing world 🙂
